When I saw the ebook was on sale for $2 last week, I decided to re-read Anathem, Neal Stephenson’s novel about — um– scientist  monks?  Who live behind closed gates for 1, 10, 100, or even 1000 years at a time?  It’s kind of a hard novel to describe without giving the plot away.  Here’s a trailer which can explain better. And a review from a big fan who happens to write for Salon.

And yes, there’s a lot of made up words, which some people don’t like, but reminded me of trying to read books in French or Russian.  If you need more help, Stephenson has posted a dictionary on his site.  And there’s a wiki, of course.

The book is no longer $2 for the Kindle version, but that’s ok.  You can read the Cryptonomicon for free, instead.
