I was talking to one of you about this pretty recently: Abolish Marriage – Let’s really get the government out of our bedrooms.

This article, by the way, isn’t advocting the abosolute abolition of marriage, just the governmental sanction of it. While many (more or less) voluntarily forego the institutution these days, marriage is strongly routed in our legal sytem, especially in family and estate law. Eliminating it would mean we’d have to find alternatives to things like intestate succession.

And would marraige have the same meaning if it weren’t sanctioned by the state? Would it matter?
